Abstract
The North Sumatra Provincial Library and Archives Service has a special service for static archives, but there are still many agencies that are not aware of the importance of these services, some of the archives provided are not grouped so that many are not placed properly and the most dangerous are missing archives. The existence of lost archives due to lack of storage space such as archive depot buildings which are located far away so that it takes time to store and search resulting in inefficiency of existing storage. Lack of government awareness of the special services for static archives, which are generally a very important part of the administration and must be protected properly and should be given special authority so that archives are maintained and guaranteed for the continuity of administration. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the performance and efforts of the Library and Archives Service in improving static archive services in North Sumatra Province. Method: The research design used in this study is a qualitative research using descriptive methods and inductive approaches. Data collection techniques using 4 ways, namely, interviews, observation, documentation and triangulation. Then the data - the data collected were analyzed by data reduction techniques, data presentation and drawing conclusions. Result: The results of this study indicate that there are still some things that have not been running properly such as vacancies, the archives in the static archive special service have not been saved and it still takes a long time in the static archive special service because the archive depot building is far from archive office. Conclusion: The performance of the Library and Archives Service is not optimal. The efforts made to improve special services for static archives by carrying out outreach to several agencies in North Sumatra Province helped increase agency awareness about the importance of special services for static archives.
