Abstract
ABSTRACT Problem Statement/Background (GAP): Currently, there is a decline in the Indonesian democracy index as a result of a series of efforts to limit expression from the government. This has resulted in people using other ways to express themselves, one of which is the social media TikTok. The ease of access and the uniqueness of TikTok's algorithm make this media a powerful medium for expressing oneself, especially in the political field, as was the case with the Challenge Welcome to Indonesia 2021 which was viral globally.Purpose: This study aims to find out how the political attitude of the community in the Welcome to Indonesia 2021 Challenge on TikTok and how the people's freedom of expression actually is on TikTok. Methods: The content analysis technique with attitude theory was carried out on 131 political content in the Challenge Welcome to Indonesia 2021 to analyze the political attitudes of the people on TikTok. Meanwhile, the interview technique using the theory of freedom of expression was conducted on five informants consisting of government elements and TikTok political influencers. Results/Findings: The final result of the study found that the majority of content creators were against the government with a percentage of 55%. This shows that the public is quite dissatisfied with the policies made by the government. In addition, people's freedom of expression on TikTok is quite high as long as it does not violate applicable rules or ethics. Conclusion: The attitude of the majority of people against the government and supported by the high level of community freedom raises several suggestions where in the future it is hoped that both the government and the community can increase public knowledge with digital literacy, not only that, efforts to guarantee the freedom of expression of the people on TikTok must also be based on the government's high commitment, especially in terms of clarity on the regulation of the ITE Law and prosecution of persons who abuse these regulations.
