Abstract
Problem/Background (GAP): This research is motivated by the low proportion of green open space (RTH) in Bandung City, which only reaches 12.47%, far below the national standard of 30%. In addition, Bandung is the largest contributor of waste to the Sarimukti Landfill, with an average of 172 truckloads per day, and the use of environmental technology remains limited. These conditions reflect a significant disparity between the ideal framework of a smart environment and the realities of its application in Bandung City. Purpose: This study aims to describe how the smart environment is implemented through management of green open space in Bandung City. Method: This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, collecting data via interviews with 8 informants, observation, and documentation. Data analysis follows reduction, display, and conclusion drawing, using Boyd Cohen’s smart environment framework with three dimensions: smart buildings, resource management, and sustainable urban planning, across ten indicators. Results/Findings: The results indicate that green-certified buildings and smart homes remain limited. In resource management, AQMS, solar panels, and waste programs have been adopted, but irrigation and water systems are still manual. Thematic parks and environmental integration in planning support sustainable urban planning, though green open space coverage remains at 12.47%. Key enablers include regulations and community roles, while constraints involve land availability, limited personnel, and coordination gaps. The government has also revitalized parks and digitized green open space data. Conclusion: The smart environment implementation in Bandung’s green open space planning shows early progress but remains suboptimal, requiring stronger execution, broader technology use, and better cross-sector collaboration. Keywords: Smart Environment, Smart City, Green Open Space, Bandung City.
