Abstract
Problem Statement: This research is entitled ‘The Strategy of the Department of Environment and Fisheries in Overcoming Waste Problems in Purworejo Regency, Central Java Province’. This is based on the problem of high waste piles in Purworejo Regency. Purpose: This research is to describe management strategies to reduce waste generation in Purworejo Regency, obstacles in managing and reducing waste generation, and efforts made by the Department of Environment and Fisheries (DLHP) to overcome obstacles. Method: This research uses a qualitative research approach. The data collection techniques used were observation, interview, and documentation. Determination of informants by purposive and snowball. Data analysis uses strategy theory according to Wheelen and Hunger in (Solihin, 2012). Result: The results of the study are the Strategy of the Department of Environment and Fisheries (DLHP) of Purworejo Regency in tackling waste problems based on strategic management theory, which includes environmental observation, strategy formulation, implementation, and periodic evaluation. DLHP conducts data-based mapping of environmental problems, strengthens the role of TPS3R (Waste Processing Sites Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), and promotes innovations such as maggot cultivation and composting, in managing and reducing waste piles, namely low public awareness, lack of economic value of waste management, limitations on waste management tools and infrastructureand limited waste management budgets. Conclusion: The conclusion shows that the strategy of the Environmental and Fisheries Service in managing and reducing waste in Purworejo Regency has been implemented but not maximized. Some things that can be suggested are that DLHP needs to continue monitoring, integrating IT in waste management, the Purworejo Regency Government needs to provide support to DLHP from regulations and budgets and suggestions for further research related to waste management with minimal financial support.
