Abstract
ABSTRACT Problem Statment/Background (GAP): This thesis presents the results of research conducted by the author, focusing on the level of political participation among the community during the 2020 Local Chief Executive Election in Tanah Datar Regency, which is still considered low, falling below the national average of 77.5%. Purpose: The aim of the author is to investigate and analyze the reasons for the low participation of the community in the local elections, especially in the Medan Helvetia Sub-district Methods: This thesis employs a qualitative descriptive method with an inductive approach, utilizing interview and documentation techniques for data collection. The author analyzes the issue using theories related to factors influencing the high and low levels of political participation among the community. Results: After conducting research, several factors were identified that influence the high or low level of political participation in the regional head elections of 2020 in Tanah Datar Regency. Among these factors, social status related to the level of education was found to be significant. People with higher education levels generally have a better understanding of the importance of their vote. Heritage also influences the level of political participation, as those with higher social status tend to be more active in participating. Additionally, economic status, related to one's occupation, can impact political participation. For example, individuals working as traders or service providers may find it difficult to leave their jobs to vote. Another factor contributing to the low political participation in Tanah Datar Regency during the 2020 regional head elections was the significant portion of the population of Tanah Datar Regency and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Conclusion: The political participation of the community in the 2020 Regional Head Elections in Tanah Datar Regency remains low, below the national average. Factors such as education, heritage, economic status, and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic affect the level of political participation. These findings highlight the need for specific strategies to increase political participation, considering the complexity of the involved factors. Keywords: Political Participation, Socioeconomic Status, Covid-19 Impact ABSTRAK Permasalahan/Latar Belakang (GAP): Penulisan skripsi ini sebagai hasil dari penelitian yang dilakukan oleh penulis dengan melihat jumlah partisipasi politik masyarakat dalam Pemilu Kepala Daerah tahun 2020 di Kabupaten Tanah Datar masih dapat dikatakan rendah karena belum mencapai rata-rata nasional yaitu sebesar 77,5%. Tujuan: Adapun tujuan penulis mengangkat masalah partisipasi politik masyarakat dalam pemilu Kepala Daerah untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis alasan mengapa rendahnya keikutsertaan masyarakat dalam pemilukada terkhususnya di Kecamatan Medan Helvetia. Metode: Pada penulisan skripsi ini penulis menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan induktif serta pengumpulan data menggunakan Teknik wawancara dan dokumentasi. Untuk menganalisis permasalahan, penulis menggunakan teori yang berkaitan dengan faktor tinggi rendahnya tingkat partisipasi politik masyarakat. Hasil/Temuan: Setelah melakukan penelitian, ada beberapa faktor yang mempengaruhi tinggi rendahnya tingkat partisipasi politik masyarakat pada pemilu Kepala Daerah Tahun 2020 di Kabupaten Tanah Datar diantaranya dari status sosial berkaitan dengan tingkat Pendidikan masyrakat dimana masyarakat berpendidikan tinggi biasanya lebih paham dan mengerti arti pentingnya satu suara yang mereka sumbangkan, keturunan juga dapat memberi pengaruh terhadap tingkat partisipasi poltik masyarakat, karena masyarakat dengan status sosial tinggi cenderung aktif dalam berpartisipasi. Faktor selanjutnya, status ekonomi berkiatan dengan jenis pekerjaan seseorang juga dapat mempengaruhinya karena jika masyarakat yang bekerja sebagai pedagang dan penyedia jasa tidak bisa meninggalkan pekerjaan mereka. Selain itu, faktor yang menyebabkan rendahnya partisipasi politik di Kabupaten Tanah Datar pada pemilu Kepala Daerah tahun 2020 adalah dikarenakan banyak masyarakat Kabupaten Tanah Datar serta dampak akibat pandemi Covid-19 Kesimpulan: partisipasi politik, mengingat kompleksitas faktor yang terlibat. Partisipasi politik masyarakat dalam Pemilihan Kepala Daerah 2020 di Kabupaten Tanah Datar masih rendah, di bawah rata-rata nasional. Faktor-faktor seperti pendidikan, keturunan, status ekonomi, dan dampak pandemi Covid-19 memengaruhi tingkat partisipasi politik.
