Abstract

Problem Statement/Background (GAP): This research was motivated by the implementation of the village head election in Mluweh Village, East Ungaran District, Semarang Regency who have used social media as a means of campaigning. Purpose: This study aims to find out how the influence of social media use on the level of political participation of novice voters in Mluweh Village and how much influence is given. Method: This study uses a descriptive quantitative method. The sample taken was novice voters aged 17-21 years and domiciled in Mluweh Village. The data collection method is by distributing questionnaires to a predetermined sample. Result: This study shows that the use of social media in the election of village heads in Mluweh Village has an influence on the political participation of first-time voters by 12.7% and this influence is positive. So that if the use of social media is increased, political participation from the community can also increase. Conclusion: The results of this study prove that the use of social media has an effect on the political participation of novice voters in Mluweh Village by 12.7%.
