Abstract
Problem Statement / Background (GAP): Elections are a means of legitimacy interests and a form of effort to improve the nation, because of this problem the government is to prevent negligence in government voting rights by stipulating Law No. 6 of 2020 in which it regulates the implementation of regional elections aimed at reducing the number of golput and increasing public participation in carrying out regional elections in Semarang City, Central Java Province. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to collect data and then analyze it to obtain results that can show community participation in the 2020 Semarang City regional election. Then find out the supporting and inhibiting factors of participation and the efforts made by the Semarang City KPU in increasing community participation. Method: This study uses qualitative descriptive methods and uses partispatial theory from Lester W. Milibarth as an analysis knife. Results: The results of research on the Political Participation of the Semarang City Community in the Regional Elections based on the results of interviews and documentation in the field, namely community political participation in the Semarang City Elections in 2020, including 1) Political stimulation, voters get a lot of political stimulation from mass media and TV media. 2) the characteristics of a person, even though in Semarang City which has a high social awareness there are not many voters. 3) The people of Semarang City, especially in Pedurungan sub-district, who received the most votes, have a high average level of education and most of them work as entrepreneurs. 4) In a democracy, voters are more likely to vote if the environment, safety, and comfort are good. Conclusion: Public political participation in the 2020 Semarang City Regional Election has not been optimal due to several inhibiting factors, but the KPU has made several efforts to increase the participation of the people of Semarang City in the 2020 Regional Election.
