Abstract
Problem Statement/Background (GAP): The Fisheries Service is an organization and institution that formed to manage fisheries sector, especially seaweed which has great potential in Nunukan District. Purpose: This research is intended to collect data and then to analyze for obtaining results that can provide an overview of how to empower seaweed farmers by fisheries office in tanjung harapan sub-district, describe the supporting and inhibiting factors in the empowerment of seaweed farmers, as well as the efforts made in overcoming the inhibiting factors in the empowerment of seaweed farmers in tanjung harapan sub-district by nunukan district fisheries service. Method: The research design that used in this research is a descriptive qualitative research method using an inductive approach. Data were collected by interview, observation, and documentation techniques. Data that has been collected is being analyzed starting from data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. This research was carried out in nunukan district fisheries office. Result Empowerment is done by providing assistance in the form of facilities and infrastructure such as providing ropes, ball-shaped buoys, and also superior seeds that can help the process of seaweed cultivation. Regarding seaweed farmers, there are many farmers who not yet or have not received assistance because these farmers have not or are not registered with the Fisheries service. Conclusion: The results of this research showed the implementation of empowerment of seaweed farmers in tanjung harapan sub-district by fisheries office has been running and is sustainable but not optimal.
