Abstract
Problem/Background (GAP): The researcher focuses on the role of BPBD Sorong City in natural disaster management in Sorong City, West Papua Province. Disaster management here is seen from the efforts to establish policies, disaster prevention, emergency response and rehabilitation, reconstruction carried out by the Sorong City BPBD. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the role of BPBD in Sorong City in natural disaster management in Sorong City, West Papua Province, seen from the disaster management applied. Methods: The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with observation, interviews and documentation as data collection techniques. Results/Findings: namely the role of BPBD has been carried out but has not been carried out optimally due to lack of human resources. Conclusion: BPBD is able to play a role in carrying out its main tasks and functions is quite good in the implementation of natural disaster management by implementing the principles of disaster management well, Sorong City BPBD implements (1) Policy Determination, Sorong City Government has issued Sorong City Regional Regulation Number 16 of 2016 concerning the implementation of disaster management, Sorong City Regional Regulation Number 10 of 2012 concerning the Organization and Work Procedure of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (2) Disaster prevention, the efforts made by the Sorong City government are to normalize the Remu river in Sorong City (3) Emergency response, when a disaster occurs, the Sorong City government quickly establishes a refugee post and prepares for the basic needs of the flood-affected community. (4) Rehabilitation and Reconstruction. BPBD as the leader of the implementation of disaster management, other partners cooperate in disaster management by carrying out tasks in a balanced manner according to their respective duties.
