Abstract

Problem/Background (GAP): The author focuses on the problem of lack of public interest in government information delivered through Instagram social media. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to describe the use of Instagram social media as public communication by the Communication, Informatics and Statistics Office of Bandung Regency. Methods: This research uses a descriptive qualitative research method with an inductive approach. The data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, and documentation. The steps of data analysis are data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing/verification. Results/Findings: The findings obtained by the author in this study based on Shimp's theory are that the implementation of information dissemination through Instagram social media is classified as good, although there are still some posts that still show a monotonous impression that makes readers feel bored, and low public knowledge of Instagram social media. Conclusion: the use of Instagram social media as public communication has gone well, this is because the messages conveyed by Diskominfo through Instagram social media to the community are mostly conveyed, and the public can convey their aspirations to Diskominfo through the Direct Message feature and the comments column in the Instagram application.
