Abstract
ABSTRACT Problem Statement/Background (GAP): (Contains the background behind the research). the role of gender identity politics in the election of Sutinah Suhardi as the first woman to become the Regent of Mamuju. The issue of gender identity was used as an issue that underlies the strengthening of women's identity for Sutinah Suhardi in winning the regional head election contestation.Objective: to describe how gender identity politics contributed to Sutinah Suhardi's victory in the 2020 Simultaneous Pilkada in Mamuju Regency Methode: This study uses descriptive qualitative research methods with an inductive approach, where the authors obtain data by means of interviews, observation and documentation Result The implementation of the 2020 Pilkada in Mamuju Regency implies the issue of gender identity. The issue was then used by Sutinah Suhardi as the main capital in her political contestation to get votes. From the results of the study, it is known that the use of gender identity issues in Sutinah Suhardi's victory in the 2020 Pilkada did not fully go as expected. Conclusion: The implementation of the 2020 Pilkada in Mamuju Regency implies the issue of gender identity.From the results of the study, it is known that the use of gender identity issues in Sutinah Suhardi's victory in the 2020 Pilkada did not fully go as expected. The inhibiting factor is gender-based discriminatory treatment which is based on the paradigm of patriarchal culture and the role and position of women in politics is limited due to public understanding that is biased in relation to religious matters.
