Abstract
Problem Statement/Background (GAP) : The author focuses on the problems of flooding and inundation that often occur in the city of Palembang and efforts to normalize rivers and creeks as an effort to prevent them. Purpose : The purpose of this study was to determine the role of the PUPR Service in efforts to normalize rivers for flood prevention in the city of Palembang. Method : This research uses descriptive qualitative method using role theory according to Siagian. Data collection techniques were conducted by interview (6 informants), observation, and documentation. Result : The results obtained by the author in research on river normalization in the context of flood prevention found that the government as a stabilizer has been running well, the government as an innovator has been running well, the government as a modernizer is quite good, the government as a pioneer is running well and the government as the executor itself is still fairly lacking and need to improve coordination between related parties. Conclusion: The conclusion is that the Palembang City PUPR Service has carried out its role in terms of flood prevention efforts which are still ongoing, this is due to good collaboration between related agencies and agencies as well as the community. In order to continue to preserve the river and prevent flooding, it is recommended to optimize the use of information technology and social media to conduct socialization in order to increase public awareness and knowledge and collaborate with various parties in flood prevention efforts.
