Abstract
Problem Statement/Background (GAP): Radicalism is an ideology that wants to be radical by means of violence and extremism, which is a serious threat to the change in the unity and unity of the nation. Central Sulawesi Province is one of the areas that is vulnerable to the spread of radicalism, especially with the existence of terrorist groups such as the East Indonesia Mujahidin (MIT). Purpose: This study aims to find out the role of the Agency for National and Political Unity (Kesbangpol) of Central Sulawesi Province in dealing with the spread of radicalism, by identifying the inhibiting factors, as well as the efforts made to overcome these obstacles. Method: The research method used is a qualitative approach with a descriptive type. Data collection techniques are carried out through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation of relevant informants. The theory used in this study is role theory by Horoepoetri and Santosa (2003), which includes five dimensions of roles: as a policy, strategy, communication tool, dispute resolution tool, and therapy. Result: The results of the study show that the Central Sulawesi Provincial Kesbangpol Agency has actively participated in designing and implementing deradicalization policies, conducting socialization and education about the dangers of radicalism, and coordinating with security forces and community leaders. However, there are obstacles such as budget limitations, lack of public understanding, and the spread of radical ideologies through social media and non-formal education. To overcome these obstacles, the Kesbangpol Agency increases cross-sectoral cooperation and empowers local communities in creating ideological resilience. Conclusion: This study concludes that the role of the Kesbangpol Agency is very crucial in preventing and handling the spread of radicalism in Central Sulawesi Province through a comprehensive and collaborative approach.
