Abstract
Problem Statement/Background (GAP): Despite Kudus Regency’s demographic advantage with a dominant productive-age population and an expanding industrial sector, its labor absorption does not show a proportional contribution to regional economic growth. The research gap lies in the limited empirical studies at the district level that combine demographic structure and labor absorption in a single economic growth model. Purpose: This study aims to examine the effect of population age structure and labor absorption on the economic growth of Kudus Regency. Method: A quantitative approach with multiple linear regression analysis was used. The data is secondary time series from 2014 to 2023, sourced from BPS Kudus. The Dependency Ratio and Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) serve as independent variables, and economic growth (measured by GDP at 2010 constant prices) is the dependent variable. Result: The results showed that the Dependency Ratio had a significant positive effect on economic growth, while LFPR did not have a significant effect. The model's adjusted R-squared value was 0.341, indicating that 34.1% of economic growth variation was explained by the two predictors. Conclusion: Managing demographic structure is critical to sustaining economic growth in Kudus. However, labor absorption still faces challenges, likely due to skill mismatches and industrial transformation.
