Abstract
Problem/Background (GAP): The preservation of local culture faces significant challenges in the modern era, particularly concerning endek woven fabric, a vital element of intangible cultural heritage in Jembrana Regency, Bali Province. A notable gap is evident in the declining interest among younger generations in traditional weaving, with over 95% of the productive age population (10–24 years old) in Jembrana showing little to no interest in learning endek weaving. This trend threatens the sustainability of the tradition and highlights the urgent need for targeted strategies from local governments to foster youth participation in cultural preservation. Purpose: This study aims to identify and evaluate the strategies implemented by local governments to increase youth involvement in the development and preservation of endek woven fabric, as well as to analyze the supporting and inhibiting factors influencing these efforts. Method: A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The research involved stakeholders such as government officials, artisans, youth, and community leaders. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model to ensure comprehensive interpretation of findings. Results: The study found that the local government has introduced multiple strategies, including the establishment of community weaving centers, youth-oriented weaving training programs, design competitions, and promotional activities via social media and cultural events. Nevertheless, challenges persist, such as limited youth interest, insufficient funding and access to training, and the cultural gap between traditional arts and modern youth lifestyles. Collaborative initiatives with creative youth communities have emerged as effective solutions to enhance interest and participation. Conclusion: To ensure the sustainability of endek weaving, youth engagement strategies must be inclusive, technology-friendly, and aligned with the creative economy. It is recommended that the local government foster cross-sector collaboration and build a supportive ecosystem that connects traditional values with contemporary youth interests, thereby preserving endek weaving for future generations. Keywords: Government strategy, youth engagement, endek weaving, cultural preservation, creative economy.
