Abstract
Problem/Background (GAP): Amidst the dominance of social media in political communication, the candidates for Bandung Regent and Vice Regent in the 2024 regional elections chose traditional media in the form of wayang golek performances. This choice raises questions about the effectiveness and relevance of traditional media in delivering political messages in the digital era. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explain the political communication carried out by the candidates for Regent and Deputy Regent of Bandung through wayang golek performances in the 2024 regional elections. Method: This research uses descriptive qualitative methods and data collection techniques are carried out by interviews and documentation. Result: The political communication of the candidates for Regent and Deputy Regent of Bandung in the 2024 elections in this study used Hafied Cangara's campaign theory which includes determining communicators, determining targets, compiling political messages, and selecting media. The puppeteer of wayang golek acts as the main communicator who is trusted by the community due to cultural and spiritual closeness. Target targets are focused on areas such as Cimenyan, Paseh, Pangalengan, and Arjasari, which still uphold local cultural values. the delivery of political messages is packaged narratively in the form of work programs and visions and missions delivered through puppet characters. The media used are hybrid: live performances and digital documentation uploaded to social media to reach young voters. Supporting factors for this communication include cultural closeness, community enthusiasm, and effectiveness of message delivery, while the inhibiting factors are limited costs, access, and weather conditions. Overall, the use of wayang golek proved to be an effective political communication strategy in delivering messages to the people of Bandung Regency. Conclusion: The political communication of the candidates for Regent and Vice Regent of Bandung through wayang golek performances proved to be effective. This is shown through the success of fulfilling all campaign indicators according to Hafied Cangara, while strengthening the local culture approach as a relevant campaign strategy in the digital era.
