Abstract
Problem Statement/Background (GAP): New voters are Indonesian citizens who are voting for the first time. Therefore, it is very important for the General Election Commission (KPU) of Musi Banyuasin Regency to provide understanding to novice voters about how to use their voting rights correctly. Purpose: This research aims to describe: (1) Political socialization by the KPU for novice voters ahead of the 2024 simultaneous general elections in Musi Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra Province. (2) Supporting and inhibiting factors in political socialization for novice voters. Method: The theory used in analyzing this research is Langton's socialization theory which includes the agent or actor who carries out the socialization, the socialization material delivered, the interactions that occur between the actor and the target of the socialization, and the resulting behavior as a result of the activity. The research approach used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data collection techniques used were interviews and documentation. The data analysis techniques used are data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Result: The results of this research indicate that in general the political outreach carried out by the Musi Banyuasin Regency KPU in preparation for the general election for president and vice president in 2024 has been carried out. This research shows that the political socialization agent, the KPU of Musi Banyuasin Regency, does not require special abilities but only requires skills in speaking, especially in conducting outreach to novice voters. When conducting outreach to novice voters, the material presented must be adjusted. The suitability of the material presented has a big influence on the recipients of the material (beginner voters). The intensity of political outreach to novice voters is also very important, resulting in increased insight and understanding of politics for novice voters in Musi Banyuasin Regency. Conclusion: Based on the results of this preparation, there is a need for routine activities related to political socialization with the collaboration of political parties in implementing political socialization to increase the political participation of first-time voters.
