Abstract

ABSTRACT Problem Statement/Background (GAP): Political participation in Asahan Regency is said to be low, namely 60%, not exceeding the target set by the Indonesian KPU, namely 77.5%. The problem that occurs is that the number of political participation is high but the involvement of millennials in political activities as agents of change, especially students and college students, is still low. Purpose: The aim of this research is to find out and analyze the political participation of the millennial generation in Asahan Regency in the 2020 Regional Elections as well as to find out and analyze the efforts made by the National Unity and Politics Agency to increase awareness of the political participation of the millennial generation in Asahan Regency. Method: This research employs a qualitative approach with an inductive method. The data collection techniques include interviews, observations, and documentation. Result: The research results show that the involvement of millennials as students or college students in political activities is only in the distribution of political campaigns and information via social media, the character of each community, what the political situation is, and how efforts are made to provide political education. Conclusion: The political participation of the millennial generation in Asahan Regency is influenced by the intense use of social media and smartphones, individual social characteristics, conducive political conditions but with the challenge of low distribution of voting rights. Efforts to increase participation include political education, cross-institutional collaboration, and outreach via social media. Suggestions for increasing participation include structured political education, use of social media as a platform for political interaction and education, as well as strong coordination between relevant institutions. Keywords: Millennial Generation, Political Participation, Political Education ABSTRAK Permasalahan/Latar Belakang (GAP): Partisipasi politik di Kabupaten Asahan dikatakan rendahi yaitu 60 % tidak melampaui target yang telah ditetapkan oleh KPU RI yaitu 77,5%. Permasalahan yang terjadi yaitu angka partisipasi politik yang tinggi namun keterlibatan kaum milenial pada kegiatan politik sebagai agen perubahan terutama mahasiswa dan pelajar masih rendah. Tujuan: Tujuan dari penelitian ini mengetahui dan menganalisis partisipasi politik generasi milenial di Kabupaten Asahan pada Pilkada Tahun 2020 serta untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis upaya yang dilakukan oleh Badan Kesatuan Bangsa dan Politik dalam meningkatkan kesadaran partisipasi politik generasi milenial di Kabupaten Asahan. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan induktif. Teknik yang digunakan dalam mengumpulkan data yaitu dengan wawancara, observasi, kemudian dokumentasi. Hasil/Temuan: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keterlibatan milenial sebagai pelajar atau mahasiswa dalam kegiatan politik hanya pada penyebaran kampanye dan informasi politik melallui media sosial, karakter dari masing-masing masyarakat, bagaimana situasi politik yang terjadi, serta bagaimana upaya dalam pemberian pendidikan politik. Kesimpulan: Partisipasi politik generasi milenial di Kabupaten Asahan dipengaruhi oleh penggunaan media sosial dan smartphone yang intens, karakteristik sosial individu, kondisi politik yang kondusif namun dengan tantangan rendahnya hak pilih yang tersalurkan. Upaya untuk meningkatkan partisipasi termasuk pendidikan politik, kerjasama lintas lembaga, dan sosialisasi melalui media sosial. Saran untuk peningkatan partisipasi meliputi pendidikan politik terstruktur, pemanfaatan media sosial sebagai platform interaksi dan edukasi politik, serta koordinasi yang kuat antarlembaga terkait.
