Abstract

Problem Statement/Background (GAP): People's political participation is an important system in a country. People's political awareness in terms of giving their right to vote in the implementation of regional elections is mandatory because it concerns the future of a region in the next five years. The results of the recapitulation of votes in the 2020 Ponorogo Regency regional election showed a decrease in votes by 1.56% compared to the 2015 Ponorogo Regency election. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the factors that influence community political participation in the 2020 Ponorogo Regency regional election using the Surbakti theory (2010) so that factors that cause a decrease in community political participation in the 2020 Ponorogo Regency regional election are obtained. Methode: This study used descriptive qualitative research methods, with data collection techniques through interviews and documentation. With data analysis techniques through data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. Results: The results showed that the factors that caused the decline in political participation of the community based on dimensions in Surbakti's theory (2010) were: (1) Political Awareness, with indicators of knowledge about the environment, society, and politics and participating in the political decision-making process, (2) Trust in the government, with indicators of one's assessment of the election organizing committee, (3) Social Status, with indicators of descent, education, and employment, (4) Economic Status, with income indicator, (5) Parents' Political Affiliation, with indicator of belonging to a political party, (6) Organizational Experience, with indicators of having been or being incorporated in an organization or group. Conclusion: The results of the study concluded that the factors that influenced the decline in community political participation in the 2020 Ponorogo Regency regional election were factors of public awareness and social status. Suggestions for this problem are to intensify socialization carried out by relevant agencies and update the system of conducting local elections using e-voting.
