Abstract

Problems/Backround (GAP): Violations in elections often occur, especially during the campaign period, one of which is Money Politics or commonly known as money politics. Money politics is an activity of bribes or kickbacks that are mostly carried out by prospective candidates and from the campaign team in order to gain votes and sympathy from the public to win elections. This research uses the basis of Rational Actor Theory according to Hopskin and Kahani in Syafhedry (2016) which determines voter behavior in the practice of money politics that occurs in the 2019 Pesantren Village Head Election by looking at three dimensions, namely initial conditions, mass media, political parties/candidates. Purpose: This study aims to determine the practice of money politics in the Election of the Pesantren Village Head in 2019. Method: The research method used is a qualitative descriptive research method using an inductive approach. Data collection techniques carried out by interviews, observation and documentation. Results/Findings:The results of the study concluded that there are conditions where there is rational behavior shown by the community by calculating the pros and cons in the election. The factors behind the practice of money politics are due to the relatively low educational and economic conditions of the community and making it a tradition . Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the The strategies of the Pesantren Village government in preventing the practice of money politics are carried out by conducting socialization and persuasive actions if violators are found.
