Abstract
ABSTRACT Problem Statement/Background (GAP): This study discusses the representation of women in the Padang City DPRD. The representation of women in the DPRD began to become a concern for the Indonesian government. Gender equality in politics gives birth to affirmative action policies for women. However, the affirmative action policy has not gone as expected. Purpose: This study aims to obtain an overview of the factors inhibiting women's representation in the Padang City DPRD and strategies to increase women's representation in the Padang City DPRD. Method:The method used in this study uses a quasi-qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques are carried out by interviews, documentation and dissemination of questionnaires with google forms. Meanwhile, the data analysis technique uses SWOT analysis to determine internal and external factors as indicators of strengths and weaknesses as well as opportunities and threats in increasing the representation of women in the Padang City DPRD. Result: The results of this study show that the factors inhibiting the representation of women in the Padang City DPRD are; societal stigma against women in politics, women must have greater performance in society, as well as constraints on the recruitment of female candidates by political parties. Strategies in increasing the representation of women in the Padang City DPRD are; form a successful team based on patronage, utilize a network of political parties, and be active in organizations engaged in women's empowerment. Conclusion: The suggestion for further research is to further deepen the inhibiting factors and strategies carried out by the female DPRD as female candidates in the general election.
